Gareth Southgate Resigns

Southgate's future as England manager remains in the air

Team manager undecided after another heartbreak in the final

Confirms he will see out the next two years leading up to the European Championships

Gareth Southgate has refused to be drawn on his future as England manager after watching his side suffer another heartbreak in the final of the 2024 European Championships.

The Three Lions lost 2-1 to Italy after a penalty shoot-out at Wembley Stadium, and Southgate admitted that he needs time to consider his next move.

"It's too early to say what the future holds," Southgate said. "I need to take some time to reflect on this tournament and what we need to do to improve for the future."

Southgate was appointed England manager in 2016 and has led the team to two major semi-finals, the 2018 World Cup and the 2020 European Championships.

However, he has also faced criticism for his team's failure to win a major trophy, and some fans have called for him to be replaced.

Southgate's contract runs until 2024, but he has said that he is open to leaving his post earlier if he feels that it is in the best interests of the team.

"I'm very proud of the players and the staff for what we've achieved," Southgate said. "But we're also disappointed that we didn't win the tournament.

"We're going to have to learn from this and come back stronger."
