HOUSTON – 50 children were shocked by lightning in Houston, Texas, on Thursday afternoon. The children were playing outside when a thunderstorm rolled in. The lightning struck a tree near the children, and the electricity traveled through the ground to the children.
Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene and transported the children to local hospitals. Most of the children had minor injuries, but some had more serious injuries. One child is in critical condition.
The National Weather Service has issued a warning for the Houston area, urging people to stay indoors during thunderstorms. Lightning can strike even when it is not raining, so it is important to be aware of the weather forecast and to take precautions when necessary.
