San Diego Police Officer Killed, Another Critically Injured in Fiery Pursuit
Suspect Also Dies in High-Speed Pursuit Crash
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Aug. 27, 2024) - A San Diego police officer was killed and another was critically injured in a fiery pursuit crash late Monday night.
According to the San Diego Police Department, the incident began around 11:30 p.m. when officers attempted to pull over a speeding vehicle in the Midway area. The driver of the vehicle failed to yield, and a pursuit ensued.
Fatal Pursuit Ends in Tragedy
The pursuit ended tragically when the suspect's vehicle crashed into the officers' patrol car at the intersection of Mission Bay Drive and Morena Boulevard. The impact of the crash caused the patrol car to burst into flames.
One of the officers, a 29-year-old male, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other officer, a 32-year-old female, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
The driver of the suspect's vehicle, a 40-year-old male, also died in the crash. His identity has not yet been released.
Investigation Ongoing
The San Diego Police Department is investigating the crash and the pursuit that led up to it. The department has not released any further details about the incident at this time.
