Julio Vacarri appointed interim manager of Vélez Sarsfield
43-year-old to take charge after Mauricio Pellegrino's departure
Vacarri has been promoted from his role as reserve team coach
Vélez Sarsfield have appointed Julio Vacarri as their interim manager following the departure of Mauricio Pellegrino. Vacarri, 43, has been promoted from his role as reserve team coach and will take charge of the first team until a permanent replacement is found.
Pellegrino left Vélez Sarsfield by mutual consent after the team's poor start to the season, which saw them win just one of their first five games. Vacarri has been tasked with turning the team's fortunes around and will be hoping to guide them to a successful Copa de la Liga campaign.
Vacarri is a former Vélez Sarsfield player and has been coaching the club's reserve team since 2020. He has a good knowledge of the club and the players and will be hoping to use this to his advantage in his new role.
